Hi Garrett: I note that you said the batteries were probably 5 years old. I
am a safety kind of person and so I put a maximum time on equipment based on
hours. For batteries I place a 4 year limit which means every 4 years 1 or
more batteries are replaced no matter if they show they are good. Being at the
mercy of the inevitable demise of batteries at their discretion is not for me.
I assume that your fuel pump is electric and it shut down when the
alternator slowed and there was nothing to keep the current flowing. I note that you
turned off the generator after start up but this procedure only gave you the
alternator output to work with and now you know the result. The culprit of all
this was the batteries and you may wish to consider a plan for regular
replacement of same rather than waiting for the batteries to fail at an
inappropriate time. Regards. Leonard Stern, INDIFFERENCE.
