The European Commission (EC) issued a press release reminding the
maritime community that legislation imposing more severe penalties
for marine pollution in EU waters came into effect on 1 April 2007.
The directive imposes penalties on any party  master, owner,
charterer, classification society, etc.  found to have caused or
contributed to illegal pollution deliberately or as a result of gross
negligence. (3/29/07).
