T&T: Starting Batteries

Another advantage of smaller starting batteries is that they can 
sometimes be located much closer to the engine, reducing wire length 
and voltage drop.   On my boat, when I bought it, two 8-D's were 
located about 25 round trip feet from the starters.  I replaced these 
with two parallel, group 31 AGM's located immediately adjacent to the 
engines.  Needless to the say, the starters see a higher voltage!
