I looked into this 3 years ago for a 44 DeFever in Seattle going to the
east coast. The 15' beam was the problem, too wide for rail because it
wouldn't fit through the rail bridges over the Mississippi, over the
road was really expensive because of the need for a lead and following
car, plus clearences both in width and height would have made the route
very circuitous, using back roads etc. In some cases there would have
been a requirement for a Police escort. Dockwise would have more than
doubled the price of the boat. Have you priced going down the rivers
and through the Panama Canal and then up the west coast? Still
expensive but a great trip!
I gave up and purchased our boat on the east coast.

I can hire a delivery captain/crew and have her brought down through the river system to Port Everglades (about 2000 NM) and then onto a Dockwise transport ship (then on to Vancouver). Or, I can have the bridge (and electronics, & considerable stanchions etc, seats) removed, put her on truck for overland transport, then get her recommissioned in Seattle. Costs are about the same. Any suggestions? Anyone have experience with Dockwise? Transporting bigger boats on the road? Thanks
