Has anyone used and/or can anyone refer me to a decent shipping company for overland boat transport?
Thanks in advance and trawler on,
John

Most people don't have a lot of problems with their watermakers if they use
them. I think that a lot of people buy water makers who don't need them. If
you are going to areas where there is not good water (Mexico or Central
America) or where a water shortage (Bahamas and parts of Caribbean) then get a
watermaker.
I have had very good results with Village Marine. They do a lot of Military
work as well as large fixed units. They have been around and will be around.
Excellent service and back up. I used one almost daily for 4 years--had one
electric transfer valve break at 3 years, they sent a new one air freight to
Panama for no charge. I was able to make a manual bypass for the several
weeks until I got to where the new part was.
The units have to be used, if not cleaned and pickled. You do not want to run
them in harbors where the water is either bacterial or oil
contamination--which is a number of popular harbors. You want clear waters.
You need a good prefilter set, oil separators and back flush system. You want
to keep one tank just for the watermaker. Never put chlorine into that tank.
Never get chlorine on the watermaker membrane.
Not for the weekend cruiser--but essential for the long distance cruiser.
There is also a wobble pump available, which is a bit more expensive than the
Cat pump, but lasts longer and is much quieter. Get that if possiable.
