John, you are correct, there's a 45' limit on the mooring balls. I
didn't think of it. We are able to use them as we come in just under the
limit at 44'.
The anchorage just outside the mooring field is a great option.
Annapolis also has a floating pumpout service. Don't know what it costs,
but talk to the harbor master, they will send it over.

1. Stop in Annapolis and pick up a mooring buoy right off the Naval
Academy and downtown. $25/night. Great old town, water taxi, great
restaurants, Very fit young men and women walking around town in their
whites and ram rod straight, etc.

A mooring probably will be a issue with him since he's in a 53' boat.. I was going to grab one for the 4th and the harbour master wouldn't let me do it since my LOA is 49'. I was told that in a good blow that I may swing and hit an adjacent boat. He should be able to just anchor out though someplace in Spa Creek or in front of the Navy yard and still get the water taxi to pick him up.
Another thing to remember about Annapolis if he's going to be down this way in early october is that the Sailboat and Powerboat shows will be here for the first two weeks. It's always fun to go to those shows.
