Hello,
I had mad my first post regarding a 36' Island Gypsy "Quad cabin". Several of
you responded with detailed responses, which helped me gather more information
and calibrate our search. We decided not to actually see the Island Gypsy
because we thought it might be have too small a salon due to the extra cabins.
At this point, the search continues. We saw our first trawler this wknd, which
was a Marine Trader 36' sedan (Europa) version. The deck on the port side near
the bow was a bit spongy, and the teak was buckled up a bit. The boat was from
1981. Below is another similar boat that is a bit newer:

>From what I read the Marine Trader may be prone to soft decks. Any words of
wisdom would be appreciated. In general, we're looking for a 36-39 foot
trawler that has two sleeping cabins that is in "good shape" for under $100k.
Fiberglass hull a must, single diesel preferable. I'd like to omit the
exterior teak, but based on our price point, I'm afraid the options usually end
up with a boat that has a good amount of exterior teak.

Does anyone have thoughts on cost for both retrofitting with fiberglass decks,
and replacing fuel tanks on these older 1980's trawlers?
Thanks again.
