I've sat back and watched this thread move through its phases, and I've been a
bit surprised at some of the strong opinions as to what the owner should do with
the boat.
What surprised me was that the firm opinions were based on just about no
knowledge of any real 'facts'! The information that a prospective buyer CLAIMS
his surveyor found is nothing more than hearsay, and is only of value for the
buyer to back out of the deal - whether the information was correct or not.
For the owner to make an intelligent decision, accurate and unbiased information
is needed. I would never base a repair vs. scrapping decision just on what a
buyer claimed his surveyor supposedly said. To me, that claim is just the
starting point to cause me to get an expert of my own to ascertain the true
condition of the boat, and the real repair costs involved.
