And, here in the PNW where I live at a small full service marina, the larger
share of those cruisers/trawlers that have davits or masts use the hand
cranked trailer winch.  Most of those that don't use this type of rig use
pot warp windlasses.  Some are powered by small IC engines, some by electric
motors and some by hydraulic motors.  These two basic arrangements encompass
about 99 % of so rigged boats in my somewhat cloudy memory.  The "Armstrong"
winch seems to be the preferred method even on HUGE "GB's" They just use
bigger winches.
