This only has a 5.7" LCD display--the Furuno 1715 has a 7" display and is
generally available for $500 less. The plus on the Icom is that it is 4 KW
and a slightly larger antenna. However I don't think that the 4 KW vs 2.2 KW
makes or the slight discremination advantage of 20 some inches vs 18" makes up
for the size difference. The Furuno is a tried and true unit. It has
consistantly tested at the top of the Power Boat reports tests. The 1715 has
several features upgraded from the 1712, including curser output to a chart
plotter, and variable antenna speeds.
Icom has dabbled in some other electronics beside their radios--which are very
good. However their products become orphans, since there is little support
and often a unit like the radar is a one shot product. I had a GPS from
Icom--worked fine, but they just made one (actually took over Micrologic).
This doesn't mean that it is not a good radar, but I recently purchased
another Furuno over the other units.
