You have a boat which is very capable of cruising to Costa Rica, so why would
you not take the trip? It is a wonderful trip. You would go down the ICW to
the Keys, Keys to Isla Mujeres, Down to Belize, the Rio Dulce, Honduras, out
to San Andres and Provendicia and perhaps to Bocca Del Torro, to the San Blas
Islands, Thru the Panama Canal, then the Las Perles Islands, the Islands off
Pedigal, to Costa Rica. This is an easy and fun trip. I assume you are going
to the West Coast of Costa Rica--if to the East Coast you will be going to
Puerto Limon. You can do it in a month if you really are pressed for
time--but I would recommend that you leave the first part of December and
spend the entire Winter getting there. There are only a couple of over night
passages involved and it is quite a safe trip.
If you have specific questions, please contact me, I have done the trip 3
times and consider it one of the best trips in the Western Hemisphere. Get
John and Pat Rain's book on Cruising Florida to California via the Panama
Canal. Also see Dolph McCranie's web site on this trip (in reverse--which is
more difficult in general) at: http://www.his.com/~vann/KrgStuff/Cal2Fla.htm
He has/had a Krogen Whaleback 48.
The other way is via transport ship. More expensive and no where the fun!
Good voyaging.
