T&T: fuel tank sender

I have no suggestions as to how to get the units out.  The last time 
I tried that I dropped stuff into the tank <g>.

However, for the ohms question, I would go to Radio Shack and get a 
variable potentiometer that goes from zero to about 250 ohms.  Put it 
between the gauge and ground.  Then determine which positions on the 
potentiometer correspond to a full tank and an empty tank on the 
gauge.  Then measure the resistance at those positions with a 
multimeter.  That is your answer.
