$6,675 is the yearly cost of insurance for my new 52' trawler that I am
sailing from Hong Kong to the Med.

It sounds to me that you are paying far too much.

With all of this talk of insurance I just checked with BoatUS because I am
launching my parents on Kentucky lake to do the loop in my boat in less than
two weeks. Ouch,  my yearly policy in the Great Lakes and inland waters is
$368.00 for the year.  That jumps to $1681.00 for a year the minute they
touch salt water.   While its pro rated only to the time in salt water, I
expect to pay and additional $656.40 for six months in salt water  is there
any other viable option that would  be cheaper?  I suspect it might be more
hassle to change than I would save at this point.
