I'll bet that Ben Ellison will let us know when it is available at affordiable
costs.  I would love to see it NMEA 2000 complient--so it would be plug and
play into a chart plotter for the reception, instead of having to have a
computer.  I suspect that in the next year or so, we will see these AIS
transponders becomming very common.

I suspect it will be mandated for passanger for hire craft before too long.
But I would certainly buy one at $1500, especially if the reciever interfaced
with my chart plotters.
