Tom,
Based on your phone number, I think you and I are in the same area....Galveston Bay area. Anyway, it seems the most competetive company right now is Zurich and that is who the agents are writing the most of around here. I have a new boat on the way and have been shopping vigorously. Zurich is the name that keeps coming up and the company who will be uderwriting my policy. Boat US and others all came in at exhorbitant prices. Zurich will also tailor your deductible to lower your premium although I do not know how much. I played around with that and the premium did not lower as much as you would like. IOW, you are leaving yourself less protected for not much gain in value. The Zurickh policy is also a fairly decent one in regards to depreciation of machinery, etc. Anyway, I think what has happended is the value leader(Seahorse or whoever that was) has retreated from the Gulf Coast market and has left a hole as far as competition goes. I am glad Zurich isn't
gouging everyone as I think they might be able to get away with it as I have found no one else that offers the same amount of value. Maybe Mr. Golden can offer some insight.
Trawler on,
John

It may be fruitful for everyone who is in the market for insurance to input
comments on agencies or carriers they have found that are currently offering
reasonable rates for coverage in coastwise areas/Bahamas/Caribbean. Mine is
up in two months, and I have already started shopping. The rates I am seeing
are up to double last year, and some with 4% deductables and no coverage for
named storms. While hurricane damage/losses is the offered reasons, none
have an alternative with large (20%-40%)storm damage deductables which would
encourage owners to take precautions, and reduce losses to the carrier (in
exchange for lower premiums). Maybe too logical??? All that can suggest
solutions, please respond.
