T&T: Stowing wet chain or rope

For your chain locker, I would suggest that you install a sacrificial 
layer of pressure treated 3/4" plywood over your treated 
(hot-zinced/primed/painted/insulated) steel. The falling chain, will, 
in time remove all coatings on your steel and allow rust. Using a 
sacrificial panel surface will allow you replace them when/if needed, 
and will also quiet the whole thing down as chain is stored or when 
in a rough seaway. Be sure you can replace the panels by working 
through the chain storage access panel.
