We use the HP method when the same tide is running. Let go all lines, full
rudder with a heavy shot forward. Swing power assisted rudder quickly about
while shifting to reverse and apply power. Repeat a couple of times and back
out. HorsePower and enormous rudder on this single helps. I like to watch the
Z-Drive tug next door just dance sideways and mosey on out the channel. To
stay put they aim the drives outwards and it does look strange to see the
water flowing that way.

My Maine home port has 10 foot tides (and therefore lots of current) so this
undocking situation is common for me. Bob described the split throttle
technique very well. The only thing that I'd add is that as your stern swings
out and your bow swings in, appropriate outward use of a bow thruster will
make your bow move off the dock avoiding any obstructions. When the bow is far
enough out, allow the stern to swing further out and back away gracefully...
