T&T: 120 Lehman Lift Pump

Greetings,
I fixed one problem and created another. Oops! Had generator problems and
found crud in the dedicated Racor bowl. I have two fuel shut off valves. One
that services the engine and one for the generator. They are hard to see and I
shut the engine fuel valve off instead of the generator valve. As soon as I
began removing the cover off the genny Racor, fuel began to overflow. I
reached back there and shut the correct valve off and proceeded to clean the
bowl. Upon completion I turned on the genney fuel supply valve, but forgot to
turn back on the engine fuel supply. Ok....We are on the hook and preparing to
leave, and the engine ran for about 30 seconds and died. I looked at the
vacuum gage and it was pegged. (At least I know its working now!) Makes sense
so far. I opened the fuel supply and began to prime the fuel system according
to instructions by opening the first bleeder valve on the injector and working
the lever on the lift pump. (Don't ask me about the engine mounted primary
filters..they have been bypassed since I bought her two years ago). I worked
and worked the lift pump and It does nothing. I removed the fuel line from the
discharge side of the pump and still nothing. While placing my finger over the
end of the line, I can feel suction / pressure, but it is barley detectable.
I know for sure I have all the fuel valves open to the engine.

What should I see coming out of the lift pump while working the manual lever?
Do you think I may have destroyed the pump by cutting off the fuel supply and
creating a BIG vacuum?

Thanks for your thoughts.
