Too many people are sold on hype. If my car runs OK on 87, it will run 
better on 90, hotter on 97 and will achieve low orbit on 115/145 Avgas. This 
is simply not true. If your car engine is designed for 87, you're wasting 
money on any higher octane. If you put 87 in your high performance aircraft, 
you'll smoke the engine.

Cetane rating are analogous to but not the same as octane ratings. The list
