On Rollsdoc we have had the Norcold AC-DC-propane for 4 years. About the only reason for the 12 volt DC on it is for the light inside. The electronics also run on 12 volt. Don't even think about running it on 12 volt as it has a 300 watt coil. That in my book means 25 Amp with little cooling capacity. The AC coil is 1500 watts and cools and freezes just fine. Propane works as well as 110 volt. Summertime in the Bahamas we use up to 30 lbs of propane per month.
On shore power we use 110 volt. Underway we also use 110 volt from the inverter which is supplied by a large frame alternator charging the house bank. When the hook goes down we switch to propane. We have 2 -30 lb tanks so running out of propane hasn't been an issue.
Norcold balked at selling us the unit when they found that we were installing it on a boat. It is mounted on an exterior wall with large vents top and bottom. There is a list member (whose name shall remain anonymous) who has his mounted mid cabin with no external vents. Last we heard he's still alive. We have several other freinds out there cruising who have propane reefers also with no complaints.
