T&T: you talking to me?

Of course I apologize to Ed, as I was not directing my comment to him.
Please note that I only replied to the List and removed all other
addressees - I did not "Reply All" for this very reason.

I think that one of the writers conveyed the image of speedboat guys sitting
at a yacht club bar suggesting that more expensive fuel gave better
performance. I am not condemning the messenger, rather the consumers who
could come up with such a stupid, illogical idea concerning diesel fuel.

At least with automobiles we get a recommended octane rating - yet we do not
get a recommended cetane rating for our diesel engines. Does anyone have a
manual, perhaps from a newer diesel's manual, which prescribes a certain
cetane level? Have you seen a pump with a cetane level on it?

I *suspect* that long-stored diesel, exposed to air loses some of its cetane
rating - but, I don't know that.

Lastly, is there anyone on this list who seeks out the most expensive gas
station so that they get the best performance from their car engine?

Finally, about 5 years ago, Yanmar raised the horsepower ratings of its
unchanged engine models. Why? Because they started to use USA diesel instead
of their own and our fuel (I assume that Canadian fuel is the same) allowed
their engines to develop more horsepower on a test stand.

When we switch over to EPA mandated EU-type diesel, will we lose horsepower/
efficiency? I *believe* the answer is yes.

Again Ed, I apologize,
Ron Rogers

You posted...Only a complete idiot would think that he is getting better
diesel by paying
  a higher price.

I started the thread by asking a legitimate question about cetane ratings
and whether higher priced fuels have higher cetane ratings and therefore
might be worth the higher price. To call me an idiot for asking that
question is insulting and requires a public apology.
