I was on the list recently for ideas on my overheat problem and wanted to
advise all who helped that we finally solved it. It was the fairly obvious
thermostat issue. They rarely fail but one did and the other was a 190
degree one, far too hot for Florida waters. We looked there last because
they are so hard to get to and rarely fail.
My next question is on fuel burn. The last time I measured fuel burn, last
year, at 2400rpm cruise I believe I was burning around 7.5 gal per hour.
Does that sound reasonable to you who have experience with this engine? And
what do you burn at low rpm? In my case I get hull speed at about 900rpm
and think I am getting less than 3gal per hour. the boat displaces about
14,500 pounds.
Thank you all for your advice on the overhead, and in advance for the fuel
burn numbers.
