T&T: No free ride.

The other night I was surfing the web for used Trawlers and found one for 
sale in Taiwan.  A 52 X 15 boat at a price very substantially below our 
local market price.  An inquiry resulted in a quotation of $38,000 USD to 
ship the boat to Vancouver BC.  The purchase price and shipping would still 
be a sweet deal.

Lets assume that I do occasionally go to China and can get a survey and sea 
trial done with me on board to rule out the normal butterflies associated 
with buying a used boat.  Where are the trip wires in this kind of a 
transaction? Has anyone on the list been involved in purchasing a boat in 
Taiwan or thereabouts?  Seems like smuggling diamonds would be easier, but 
maybe this is not too difficult.  Your thoughts please.
