T&T: Alternative to hard drives in computers

I have not found the little memory sticks to be all that reliable.  I have
been told that they have a little watch battery in them and when that fails
they fail.  True?  On the other hand, our cheesy Dell hard drives have not
given out yet (knock on head).  Most of the marine equipment onboard breaks
far more often...
