Arild,

I have a 512 mbyte memory stick that I use. It conserves hard drive
use since I use it to store docs while working.

Friend uses a 4 GBYTE Ipod to run his computer. he starts up with it
and runs everything off of it. Then, he backs up the docs generated
from it to the hard drive at the end of the day.

Has anyone tried to uses one of the memory sticks as an alternative to
conventional hard drives.

My desk top computer has a power saving feature wherby I can shut
doewn the
hard drive after so many minutes of non activity.
A memory stick plugged into a USB port is seen as a USB drive so
would this
not be a non-moving drive that can be left running without wear and
tear.
Alternatively the RAM memory can be divided so a portion serves as a RAM
drive, again without need for a mechanical spinning drive. In idle
mode the
spinning hard drive is a large power consumer - which in turn means more
heat produced in the power supply.
