T&T: about Monk's, or?

As recent converts from sailing to trawlering, we spent a lot of time
researching trawlers from 30 to 40-something feet.
Trawlers under 30 feet appeared cramped inside, best suited to one couple
only and most likely limited to protected, inland waters.
The 40-plus trawlers were somewhat intimidating for us as first time power
boaters, kind of like driving a ship ! !
Our cruising plans (once retired) include New England in Summer, Florida and
Bahamas in Winter from a new home in North Carolina.
We zeroed in on the 34 to 38 foot range and selected a lightly used 1988
Monk 36 for our first trawler, single diesel with bow thruster.
The Monk 36 can easily handle coastal cruising, is easy to dock and anchor
and is very livable with the queen berth and large head with tub and shower
in the master aft cabin. The generator and reverse cycle Air/Heat provide
year round cruising comfort.
Another plus is the very active Monk 36 Owners Association. We have been to
two rendevous in the Chesapeake Bay area with over 30 boats attending. We
had not yet purchased our Monk when we attended the first rendevous but were
welcomed with open arms. The association supports a very active email group
providing support and advice similar to the T&T forum, makes us feel like
family.
