As Marge has gracefully passed the requirement for license, I just got
caught in the trap that required testing for my Alabama Boat License. I have been
boating for more than a few decades and I thought the test was fairly
comprehensive for a state test. There is a test but no demonstration of skill;
however, my twin trawler is much easier to handle than the small single engine
shrimp boat of 2/3's her size from my youth.

Give the free test a try at: _http://www.boat-ed.com/al/al_internet.htm_
(http://www.boat-ed.com/al/al_internet.htm) Brush up on your cans and lights or
you may not pass the first time through...

The class can be Internet taken as well as the test and a certificate comes
in the mail once passed. It's geared to the masses so there is more focus on
PWC and runabouts which make up more of the boating public but it has a good
balance of safety guidance and navigation rules.

Overall a good test and an easy model for other states to adopt.
