Dear Listees
When I first subscribed to this list it was my intention to engage in
extensive cruising, in a trawler, around the coasts of N America and
neighbouring states. These plans have now changed as a result of the Admiral
wanting to keep a home in France and our uncertainty about the policies of
Departments of Homeland Security and Immigration. I obviously cannot afford
to involve myself in significant expenditure to find that, for example, on
returning to USA from Canada (or Mexico or Cuba) we are not allowed to enter
the country. This may be unlikely but it could happen. We have decided to
stay in France and cruise Europe and therefore the information tendered on
this list becomes less relevant.
I would like to thank everyone for their expertise, advice, recommendations,
experiences and suggestions. There are many experts contributing to this
list which I honestly believe is the best of its kind, anywhere. Posters are
without exception patient and helpful to questions received, even when the
subject was discussed in depth several weeks or months earlier. Only a
polite "you may find more information in the archives" hinting that a seven
day marathon discussion on the same subject finished just last week!
On a few occasions a post may include a comment which some may find
offensive or at odds with their own beliefs. This is a reflection of the
differences and diversity of opinion gathered on this list, a credit to
Georgs Kolesnikovs. In any free society there must be room for all colours,
all shades, all levels of opinions. There has been great humour and often
disrespect in some postings (what is wrong with Bayliners?) but I believe
that this adds to the entertainment, raises the interest and provides the
quality of the Trawlers & Trawlering List; it otherwise becomes sterile and
encyclopaedic rather than a gathering of humans; and anyway nobody got hurt.
Thank you everyone, thank you Listmeister Bob McLeran making a good job of a
difficult task and especially, thank you Georgs.
Best regards
Roger Bingham
