When in reality "radio checks" are just a way to let people know you're
around, right? The radio was working just an hour, or maybe two ago. It
hasn't fallen from it's mount, more that the requisite three feet, from
which Motorola tests their equipment. You haven't been through a typhoon. No
bridges knocked the antenna off the mast. You can hear the stations on that
channel, and 16 is hardly ever quiet, even up here in the PNW. If you can
hear a station, it's likely that they will be able to hear you as well.
Probably better to stay off the air unless you have traffic for another
station you believe is monitoring that channel, which is not 16. We're all
big boys. We know where we are, and where we're going. We supply our own
safety, right?
Why do we continually ask "Is there anybody out there"?
The lights are on and the closet door is open, fer criminy sakes!!!!
