Unfortunately the misters do not work all that well in Florida's high
humidity.
For sun shade--there are shade cloths. I saw several which are not real
expensive and look decent with 85% shade at Lowes--they are a polyprop and
several colors. They are 10 feet wide, so you would have to use two widths.
Let the fabric drape down over the sides.
When we were sailing in the tropics, we put an awning (sunbrella) over the aft
pilot house, but also made shades for the pilot house windows out of pieces of
sunbrella which attatched to the hand rails on the pilot house, and then to
the life lines--gave excellent shade, without much windage--used loops of
fabric to secure to railings and lifelines (hand made--of an off beige
color--one of the coolest fabrics--with no glare).
As for extending the pipes--don't think that will work--you have to be careful
of getting mud into the air conditioner intake. I suspose that you could run
a booster pump, with a pvc rigid pipe over the stern or side, then to the AC
intake pump with a Y Valve..
Also we had dark lexan on the pilot house windows and covers over hatches.
one can also use Phifertex or Phifertex plus, a mesh fabric over the
windows--this will allow one to look out, but cut the sun intrusion. (the
Lowes product looked similar and was 10% of the cost)
