We cruised Europe for several years using a Force 10 stove (Canadian) which is
propane. We had no problem finding propane anywhere in all of Europe--Turkey
to Sweden--in 1980's. This same stove is available today--and all that you
would need are a different set of bottles or filling adaptors. Although I had
adaptors, I was always able to find a propane station which had the POL
fittings, so I could fill the American certified bottles without problem.
I would highly recommend that you go that way.
My current boat has a two burner diesel stove/heater. It is a Wallas, and
reasonably sophisticated--with a fuel pump, computer, forced draft. There is
little or no odor and virtually no noise. The Dickinson stoves are works of
art--but not something you might want in the Med or in temporate climates of
N. America. For Alaska or Maine--they are great.
Go Propane and enjoy cooking just like at home!
