Does anyone on this list have a boat that uses only 240 volts for it's ac
power ? Does anyone know of anyone that has a streight 240 volt boat ? I'm
just a dumb old journeyman electrician, that has installed an almost
countless number of residential services in the 30 to 200 amp average size.
Almost all of them were 120/240 single phase. Boat electric service is
pretty much the same, especially boats in our sizes. If you can show me,
with a good amp meter, that a boat can pull 60 amps from a 30 amp service I
will eat my favorite hat. If you could "sneak up" on the breaker you might
get a little more than it's rating but not for long. Your still not gonna
get 60 amps from it, ever. Your power supplier rates the service by the size
of the main breaker, not by adding 2 breakers together. The neutral will
carry the imbalance from any 120 volt loads, if you are getting a neutral
return on a 240 volt load something is wrong with the end use item. This is
all preschool stuff that an apprentice electrician would be expected to know
befor they let him in the door to journeyman school.
