The Erie Canal as well as the Oswego Canal have been closed since Thursday, I
drove up on the Thruway a took a look at lock #15, the lock house was moved
on this foundations by the water which was about 8 to 10 feet above the lock
walls. I have digital photos from the Thruway.
There was a 38-39' Mainship brought into lock 15 to protect it, (a common
practice on canals) and it was sunk in the lock by rising water, Insured by Boat
US.
They will have a crane there Thursday to try to get it out.
No opening date for either the Erie or Oswego.
But the water has receded, and thing are looking better every day.
Some Erie Canal locks in the finger lakes have been reported open.

Regards,
Capt. James Clausen, MV Summer School
Cruising the Erie Canal, Lake Ontario, Rideau Canal, Ottawa River,
St. Lawrence Seaway, Montreal, Quebec City, and Saguenay Fjord, the Summer of
2006
