T&T: Bottom Paint from Fresh to Salt Water

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to ALL!

 

I have a question regarding bottom paint.  I acquired my boat that had been
in fresh water its entire life.  I fell relatively certain that the bottom
paint that is on there is designed for fresh water environment and needs to
be changed.  Is that the case, and do I just need to clean the bottom and
have a new coat applied or do I have to do more?  How critical is the
timing?  It's been in salt water now for about 4 months.  Some buildup, but
nothing major yet.
