the NJ intracoastal is very challenging with a 4 and half foot draft you  
would be much better off outside, just  wait for weather.  When we did  the NJ 
intracoastal a couple of years ago it was touch and go.  I talked to  a tows are 
us boat and he talked me through some of the tricker spots while he  was 
towing twin engine trawler with two bent wheels.
