First as far as dive tables go at least one of the agencys has dropped 
tables from open water going totally to computers. Most of the divers i see 
(i'm one of them) use two computers like any diving gear if one acts up the 
dives over. It's very hard to terminate your trip when some of your 
electronic stuff dies or starts to give questionable information. When 
around goverment installations my stuff always acted up. Theres nothing more 
reassuring than looking over at the chart book and seeing where you're at 
and which way you should head. Of course thst requires a decent compass and 
also an ability to plot. We always tracked our position on the chart and 
when the electronics didn't seem right it was no big deal to figure it out.
