T&T: Polynesian navigation

OK help me out. I read somewhere in a non-internet source, but a reliable 
source (I think) that Polynesians wayfinders could feel the motion and 
direction of the ocean swells by the swinging of their testicles.

Now every time I tell that, I get a lot of suspicious grins and chuckles, as 
I suspect many of you are doing. This reference, 
http://pvs.kcc.hawaii.edu/navigate/navigate.html, mentions feeling the 
swells, but doesn't say how. Has anyone else heard the same tale?

BTW, the above http reference seemed good to me, but I'm waiting for Arild 
to tear it apart.
