John, why mess around with the outmoded technology and extreme weight of
8D batteries - they were "invented" for starting Caterpillar tractors!
I'd recommend using golf cart batteries (designed for deep discharge and
repeated recharging) - I prefer the Trojan T-105s. Furthermore, you, and
you alone, can lift them into place without the use of a fork-lift! :-{)
