I'm a new list-member - reading postings for a while. Great knowledge
resource!
We are buying a trawler for part-time-live-aboard, final contract signing
should happen this week, our last boat was an '86 Sea Ray gas-pig, too fast
and too noisy.
I'm asking for any thoughts/experience on the following specifics of this:
'83 Lien Hwa 36', single Lehman 200hp diesel, galley down, 'sundeck'. It
was a charter boat for 2-3 years, and then a refit was started. That has
been ongoing for 2 years as a low-priority project in a boat yard. Almost
complete now with a new engine that was installed 11/2yr. ago and not run
since; lots of superficial?; corrosion in engine room around engine mounts,
A/C pan, generator H/W, some electric connectors. All windows have been
repaired and rebedded, aft berth re-teaked, all other interior bulkheads
prepared and marine vinyl wallpapered. I guess what concerns me is all the
time the boat has spent out-of-service, and what kinds of problems the
systems might have when its finished and splashed (dried seals and rings,
liquids setting up, warps, can't even scope what might have disintegrated
and could fail over the first few weeks-months).
Thoughts and experience on what we might be looking at in the near-term
would be greatly appreciated,
Buying First Trawler
