T&T: Exhaust

Boy we must have done something wrong!
Swan Song doesn't blow soot or smoke or goobers in the air or on the boat
deck. It is as quiet inside the pilothouse and saloon as any boat I've been
on. Our ER temp on our recent trip to Venezuela was 106 degrees and the
exhaust jacket was 115 and you could easily hold your hand on it from the
manifold to the chimney entrance.
It has a bit of a Detroit Diesel rap to the exhaust but isn't at all loud.
Any more silencing and the back pressure would be too high for the 2 stroke.
Detroit's are not know as the cleanest burning engines but again maybe I
screwed something up in the design and building of this system.
If you are sooting your exhaust/deck you have an engine overload problem. If
its wet then you have fuel burn issue. If it greasy then time for some new
rings.
An engine in good condition, matched prop, clean hull and low back pressure
dry exhaust system will burn clean and can be quiet.
Good design and execution wins here as well as anywhere else.
As always YMMV and probably does,
Cheers
Dave
