T&T: Exhaust

Our ex commercial fish boat has a dry exhaust / keel cooler system and I 
would not give it up. It has to be the most maintenance free system 
around for this application and in 15 years we have not had a problem 
including the cold run soot problem others complain about.
I converted the stack insulation system and have the exhaust pipe 
running through the cabin in a stack made up of insulated stainless 
steel home fireplace / stove chimney pipe. This insulated pipe is rated 
to 1400 degrees with zero clearance so its not a problem with the 
exhaust pipe inside it. The exhaust pipe is 3 inch steel while the 
chimney pipe is 6 inch inside and 8 inch outside so instead of a 16 inch 
square trunk running through the cabin now we have a nice shiny 
stainless pipe 8 inches in diameter.
This was not a novel idea I thought up and was copied from several local 
NW boats as well as feedback from our fellow listees in New Zealand and 
Australia. where I believe it originated.
Just another take on the dry exhaust debate !
