T&T: E-Book Readers for Manuals, Books, etc.

Seems that some people are interested in the e-book readers from Sony and
others for use with manuals and books on board in an effort to minimize
weight and storage issues with physical books. I did some checking on the
Sony reader specifically.
On the sonystyle.com Site they list Borders as being a seller of the
E-Reader. Checked there. Nothing in searches or within the site for books,
dvds, music, nothing. Borders shows Amazon.com as the provider and search
engine for Borders, so going to Amazon site, still nothing.
Interestingly enough the learningcenter.sony.us site offers the reader to
purchase at $349 and some software. Sony also offers a $150 credit if you
get their credit card, but the credit is applied many weeks after the first
purchase.
Still very weird. As it relates to boating I would like to use this type of
device to store important portions of reference manuals(maybe have to scan
in beginning), critical personal and boat information, some charts, manuals
I have downloaded from manufactures of my laptop, printer, engine, etc. as
well as the books. Security may be an issue as there is no mention anywhere
of a protection scheme? Who knows? Seems like this thing still is not
really off the ground yet. If it were readily available I think they would
be pushing hard for holiday sales.
Others have mentioned tablet type laptops for this purpose, but I've yet to
find one that is clearly readable in daylight even under the bimini top.
Anybody have a recommendation on the tablet and/or source?
Best regards,
