I have a 130 HP natural Perkins 6.354 Diesel in my 36 ft custom
trawler. The size of exhaust hose fitting on the water injection elbow is 3"
so
without much thought I added 12 ft of 3 in exhaust hose to the transom
exhaust exit. The
engine has no muffler. The boat has been in service with this setup
for 18 yrs, 1400
hrs. No problems so far.

I would like to add a muffler to this setup. My research indicates
that a muffler should have an inlet and outlet in the range of 4" to
5" for a 120 HP Diesel engine.

My questions for the list are???

Is my current exhaust hose undersized for the 120 HP Perkins engine?
If so, should I increase hose size before the new muffler and continue with
that size to transom.?
What potential problems might I encounter if I just add a lift muffler
with 3" inlet/outlet.

I am planning on installing a Naqualift Silencers Side Inlet/Top
Outlet. Does this sound reasonable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance
