T&T: Laptops: "Marinized" or Not?

I had a standard lap top last for 5 years of full time cruising (Artic to
Tropics in a motor sailor--far more severe conditions than the average ICW
boat will encounter).  The keyboard gave up due to some salt air corrosion.
In 5 years todays laptop will be light years behind and you will be ready for
a new one.

But, I agree, for navigation a chart plotter is much better.  It is simpler,
better screen and faster.
