T&T: strange alternator problem

'Lo Dick and all,

Tachs that are driven from alternators often have a similar
"problem". For example, all four tachs on the Celestial (twin
engines, upper and lower helms) indicate zero RPMs and
voltage/current output when first starting the engines and idling.
After the oil pressure comes up, I bump the throttles to what is
about 1200 RPMs and the tachs start reading correctly as does the
alternator output. After that, they operate perfectly at all power
settings. It seems to just be the nature of the beasts.

Take care and be safe.
