T&T: Fw: Stuffing Box

I've had the "new" boat 4 years and most of the time it's been in the yard.
Either the boat yard or tied up to the dock in my back yard. Almost every
item I installed on Cigano came as a result of discussions on this list.

Dripless packing glands are no exception. This list had me interested and a
friend with 42' Bertram sportfish was all for them. A very wise gentleman
talked me out of them- guy that owns the yard. Maybe on a high RPM operation
like the sportfish it would make sense but at 1800 RPM, on my boat, it
doesn't. It would be very difficult for my GoreTex packing to fail but, if
it did, I could stuff in a greasy T-shirt to get home.

Regards.
