The following is a reply to a question I raised with Rosepoint
Navigation about compatability of the NGA charts with Coastal Explorer.

Looks like Rosepoint has already made the conversion for you.

Hi John,

The ‘Coastal Explorer Charts’ that ship with our retail product are
derived from the DNC data. We are not directly compatible with the charts
(Due to licensing restrictions on the DNC format) but we do have the 250
NGA charts available for the US included in our product in a converted
format.

As far as I am aware, no commercial product on the market is compatible
with the DNC format, I believe you have to be a government agency or
contractor to even download the charts. The files you can get from their
website are simply patch files to the DNCs.

Can Coastal Explorer use charts produced by the National
Geospatial-Intelligence Agency that are available for public download?
(the old Defense Mapping Agency)
