T&T: Bug Lights

I've been curious why exterior lights on boats I've seen aren't yellow to lessen the unwanted congregation of bugs.  I was considering removing the lense covers from my aft deck lights and installing yellow filters and seeing if it makes a difference.
   
  Am I wasting my time?  Does yellow really keep any of the bugs away?  If it does, is it a specific yellow?
