Again, I repeat, I have had absolutely no problems with my $20 Tripp-Lite
Model U209-000-R Adapter. Extensive documentation and even a mini-CD come
with the unit for use by those running older OS's.

Subject: T&T: Navigation Software observations - serial adapters

Been following the action on USB to Serial Adaptors and as I had posted
before we really have been through the mill with them. Clearly the one's
that were the least amount of trouble overall were the higher end ones like
the one Garmin sells... (Get it at West Marine), Belkin works but has a rare
intermittent problem of not being recognized during startup, Keyspan works
great so stick with what works. The one from Radio Shack failed to work
properly as did other cheap alterative... PCMCIA serial solutions work great
but are a bit pricey. Biggest trouble I have had with them is the very fine
connector out to the serial port cable breaks and sometimes takes the
connector with it! If you use them be very careful of physical stressing of
that connector!
