One thing to keep in mind is the fact that what you see on your fishfinder 
screen is in the past, has already happened and in no way tells you what is 
under your boat right now if you are moveing. The faster you go the further 
off the chart is. Some units have a function that tells you how far back the 
picture is, great for trolling. Some of the forward looking sonars are 
interesting, like the interphase twinscope. If you could calculate your 
speed as apposed to the screen update- you would actually have useable data.
